Emotional Regulation Activity Pack
A standalone printable pack built around the same DBT-informed arousal-curve and trigger-ladder work that anchors the Anger Regulation kit — extended into a worksheet-only format clinicians can drop into individual sessions, small groups, or take-home practice. Each sheet is a single skill, on a single page, with a self-rating prompt the teen can re-use between visits.
Built for
The teen whose feelings move faster than their words — and whose visit needs a body-first anchor before language can land.
- Cue.The session starts with arousal already in the room — the teen's body has been tracking the spike since homeroom, not since they sat down.
- Body. The window inside the visit narrows the moment the feeling is named; body-cue vocabulary opens the window, not the talking.
- Skills. One DBT-informed activity per visit — body-cue map, trigger ladder, TIPP pick, IMPROVE rehearsal, ride-out drill, daily check-in, or co-regulation note — paced so the teen can carry it home.
What's inside
Seven activity components, one printable cut-out at a time.
Every sheet below is one component, on one page, ready to print and hand to the teen. Drop them in across a series of visits or pair two inside a single 50-minute session.
Goals
What the clinician keeps pacing the visit against.
- Name the body cue before the coping skill opens — the teen rehearses arousal vocabulary so the body has words before the spike arrives.
- Rank the actual triggers on a concrete eight-rung ladder the teen draws in their own language — not a scale, a map.
- Narrow the TIPP or IMPROVE pick to one skill the teen will reach for first in the next seven days, not all seven letters.
- Hand a co-regulation note to the caregiver so a trusted adult carries the same body-cue vocabulary between visits.
Materials
What you print or cut out before the visit starts.
- Body-cue mapping sheet (half-letter, 110 lb stock)
- Trigger-ladder worksheet, 8 ranked rungs
- TIPP skills pick card (Temperature / Intense exercise / Paced breath / Progressive relax)
- IMPROVE skills rehearsal sheet
- Ride-out cue drill (60-second reset, three reps)
- Daily check-in half-sheet (one per week, six-up)
- Parent/caregiver co-regulation handout
Script
The 50-minute clinician run, in order.
- 01Open (5 min) — body-cue break: the teen names one cue they noticed since last visit and the clinician writes it under the teen's hand.
- 02Activity 1 — body-cue mapping sheet, then trigger-ladder: three rows on the map, eight rungs on the ladder; clinician does not draw it.
- 03Activity 2 — TIPP pick card: teen picks one corner they will reach for first in the next seven days; narrowing the choice is the work.
- 04Activity 3 — ride-out cue drill: sixty seconds, three reps; eyes open, feet on the floor, running timer is the only cue.
- 05Close (5 min) — daily check-in half-sheet travels home in the backpack; co-regulation note travels to the caregiver, not back to the file.
Icebreaker
How the session opens — body first, language later.
- Body-cue break — clinician models first ("my shoulders pull in when the room gets loud"), then passes the half-sheet to the teen. No share-back required.
- The teen shades the boxes that change when the surge starts: shoulders, jaw, chest, gut, hands. The sheet is private.
- Close the open with one sentence the teen can carry into the hallway: the cue is the door, the breath is the floor. Neither has to be perfect.
Activities
The seven printable pieces — drawn straight from the catalog so the card and the page never drift.
- Body-cue mapping sheet (half-letter, 110 lb stock)
- Trigger-ladder worksheet, 8 ranked rungs
- TIPP skills pick card (Temperature / Intense exercise / Paced breath / Progressive relax)
- IMPROVE skills rehearsal sheet
- Ride-out cue drill (60-second reset, three reps)
- Daily check-in half-sheet (one per week, six-up)
- Parent/caregiver co-regulation handout
Closing
Take-home rhythm so the drill survives the week between visits.
- Daily check-in half-sheet travels home in the teen's backpack at each session close — one sheet per week, same time each day; habit beats insight.
- Co-regulation handout goes to the caregiver at intake so a trusted adult carries the body-cue vocabulary between visits, not just the teen.
- Trigger-ladder card stays on the consult table; revisit monthly — the safe rung can climb as the vocabulary grows.
- TIPP or IMPROVE pick narrows to one skill the teen will reach for first — the order, not the list, is the rehearsal target.
Tied to the DBT emotional regulation track
The same body-cue → trigger-ladder → coping-skill arc that anchors the Anger Regulation kit — extended into worksheet-only format clinicians can drop into individual sessions, small groups, or take-home practice.
Every sheet maps to the TIPP/IMPROVE distress-tolerance track: body-cue mapping grounds the teen before the ladder opens, the trigger-ladder narrows the vocabulary the TIPP pick card draws from, and the ride-out drill is the icebreaker that turns the daily check-in into a habit. The pack stitches directly into the 4-Week Teen Emotional Regulation Program and the Group Therapy Bundle — clinicians running either can pull individual components without reworking the arc. The co-regulation handout carries the same body-cue vocabulary to the caregiver so the trusted adult in the room between visits holds the same map.
